Gary Neville said something two years ago on air which I relate to, more and more, with every passing day.
‘This club is broken from top to bottom’ – Eight words, summing up fifteen years of incompetence, arrogance and failure. As I type this, United are losing 5-1 at home against a manager whose reputation they tarnished with over half an hour to play and four of those goals being scored in front of The Stretford End. Our Stretford End.
We are being run by people who are bank managers, who have never kicked a ball in all their lives, who’re playing the most expensive game of football manager there ever was, who keep letting us down year after year after year after year. The Schweinsteigers, the Schneiderlins, the Fellainis, the David Moyes(s), when’s it going to end? Is it ever going to?
And no this isn’t just some reactionary article by a butthurt Man Utd fan. This is 7 years of frustration. The level of illiteracy this board has shown over that time is beyond staggering. We’ve cried out for a director of football, someone who knows what he’s doing. Someone who wouldn’t get you Odion Ighalo on deadline day. Someone who wouldn’t put Phil Jones on eighty thousand grand weekly and wonder why we can’t offload him. Someone who wouldn’t fail to have the club’s PRIORITY signing in with deadline day looming. Someone who wouldn’t go around doing deals like Edinson Cavani which has desperation written all over it. We’ve had $90M taken out of the club in just the last two years. The money WE, the fans, who’re affected by every little thing about the club, who’ve grown up watching us rule over world football, put into the club.
Now onto the stuff on field. We’ve paid Leicester City all that money for somebody who can’t head a football. I’m not joking when i say this, i’d do a better job than that guy. And i’d play for United for free. Yet, the fanbase wants to romanticize the guy. Aaron Wan Bissaka is worse than a school kid going forward, he’s worse than a school kid positionally, yet the fanbase won’t say a word because he kept Raheem Sterling quiet on both of the Manchester derbies last season. FORGET Jadon Sancho, when i say we need two new centre-halves, i mean it.
And Ole, why is Paul Pogba playing if he’s not 100%? Why is Harry Maguire captain? Why is Aaron Wan Bissaka starting over Dalot? Why can NONE of our midfielders keep the ball? If you’re Manchester United manager, you HAVE to make these tough calls. You need to let the Beckhams go, you’ve got to sell the Van-Nistelrooys, you’ve got to shout at these superstars.
This isn’t because of a 6-1 loss at home, these are a series of issues we as a fanbase CHOOSE not to look at. Let’s call a spade a spade here, this club is in some serious shit.
This isn’t what Sir Alex built. The Bryan Robsons, the Eric Cantonas, the Gary Nevilles, the Wayne Rooneys, I have grown up being pampered by Man Utd, pardon me for not settling for mediocrity. And pardon every United fan for the perceived hysteria on social media. They too, like me, want Manchester United back.
